Love is Blind: Learning to See the Truth Within
Like so many things, I recently ended a long term relationship with someone who I believed could be a life partner and soul mate, but alas it was not in the cards for me. My romantic relationships have usually been shallow and one-dimensional. But I've had deep love. And interestingly, I started this site and business with the hope of helping people find deep love, first within themselves, then outside themselves, and then with “the one”. But in having this relationship end, I do feel at times that I couldn't possibly know enough to help others and yet I know that deep love with self is key and this is something I am very familiar with.
Deep love with self is not about excessive self-aggrandizement or being so caught up in yourself that as the old folks say, “you can't smell yo' self,” its about knowing yourself so deeply that you can start the process of getting your needs met in regards to the heady and intoxicating process of falling in love with another. This requires a type of humility, done so by self – reflection, that you can be honest with yourself about when to walk away, when to stay, and when to fight. Love's war is as much about strategy and timing as it is about simply losing yourself in the wonderful process of building a close bond with another person, whether that turns into romantic love or not.
So love is blinding and clarifying, often at the same time. And dealing with the illumination of that pain is no easy task, but we must try and we hopefully prevail. As for my personal journey, I will continue to write about the soaring love in relationships that feels like flying and discuss the ramifications of doing so. Because while we talk about karma being a bitch, its not just about paying for your pain and decisions, its about receiving the blessing of consequence because it helps us all “see” when we've been blind before, blinding in the moment, and knowing we'll blind ourselves and our partners in the future. It's one of the greatest journey's and sharing in it is the best type of healing there is.
